Midtown, Wynwood and Edgewater have no shortage of nail salons. Choosing between them from photos is close to useless — every feed shows the same perfect close-ups. Here is what actually separates them, and what you can check before you hand over your hands.
Sterilisation Is the One Non-Negotiable
Ask how tools are handled. The answer should be specific: metal tools are cleaned, bagged, and run through an autoclave, and the pouch is opened in front of you. Files and buffers that cannot be sterilised should be single-use.
If the answer is vague, or tools come out of a drawer already open, leave. Nail services involve living skin, and this is the one area where there is no acceptable shortcut.
How Long Is Actually Reserved for You
Time is the clearest signal of what you are buying. A detailed manicure with careful cuticle work takes about two hours. A quick gel manicure takes forty-five minutes. Both are legitimate services — but they are not the same service, and a salon selling the first at the speed of the second is selling neither.
Ask what is reserved for your appointment before you book. Our own menu is explicit about it: 45 minutes for a manicure, two hours for a Russian manicure, 90 minutes for a gel pedicure.
What the Price Includes
Prices become confusing when removal and design are quoted separately after the fact. Ask what is included and what is added.

Warning Signs Worth Acting On
Pain during cuticle work is not normal and never has been. Dust coming off the surface of the nail plate means the plate is being filed, not the cuticle. Nails that feel thin, hot, or sore afterwards mean too much was taken off.
A good technician will stop the moment you say something. If saying something feels awkward, that is information about the salon.
Practical Questions Worth Asking
Can two services run at the same time? If you are booking nails and lashes, some salons can run both with two technicians and halve your visit. Ours can — mention it when you book.
What happens if a nail chips? A salon that repairs its own work within a reasonable window stands behind it.
Who is doing the service? Technicians specialise. It is fair to ask who is best suited to what you want.
